Authorities have identified two men from New York state who were killed in a wild midnight gun battle in North Hollywood that left two other men wounded and two others on the loose.
There was no immediate word of what prompted the deadly gunfire after six men gathered outside an apartment building.
The gunfire erupted around 11:35 p.m. Monday as a group of men stood in the 5000 block of Klump Avenue, between Camarillo Street and Magnolia Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Ryan Dunk, 25, of Brooklyn, died at the scene, said coroner’s assistant chief Ed Winter. Jawara Tucker, 29, whose New York home town was not known, died at a hospital, Winter said.
Two other men were wounded, one critically. Both were taken to hospitals, where one remains and the other was treated and released, police said.
“The investigation thus far has revealed that three males arrived at the location just prior to the shooting,” according to a police statement.
“They met with and greeted three additional males, who exited the parking structure of the apartment complex. Their meeting quickly deteriorated when guns were drawn and a running gun battle ensued. In the end, more than 20 rounds were fired (and) four of the six individuals sustained gunshot wounds.”
Police Lt. Mike Kozak told reporters at the scene that some of the “victims” may be suspects. Two weapons were recovered at the scene, he said.
Detectives are “piecing together evidence to determine the motive,” according to the LAPD, which has released no suspect information.
