
A shooting in the Arlington Heights area of Los Angeles Thursday left a man dead and a woman seriously wounded, police said.
The shooting occurred about 12:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Van Ness Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Lucio Garcia, 56, of Los Angeles died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.
“Upon their arrival, officers found a vehicle in the roadway,” an LAPD statement said. “The driver had sustained gunshot wounds, and a female passenger was seriously injured. Two small children in the vehicle were not injured.”
The woman was taken to a hospital. The vehicle apparently was parked at the time of the shooting, police said.
The suspect was described as a man, about 20-25 years of age, who ran from the crime scene. A motive for the shooting was not known, police said.
