A man convicted of murder and arson for setting a 2012 fire that killed two fellow residents and injured another at an unlicensed boarding house in Pasadena was sentenced Wednesday to two consecutive life prison terms without the possibility of parole.

Superior Court Judge Stan Blumenfeld also ordered Garth Allen Robins, 54, to spend an additional 14 years in state prison.

Robbins was convicted April 7 of two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of arson of an inhabited structure and arson causing great bodily injury for the Nov. 1, 2012, fire that killed Cliff Juan Clark, 56, and Paul Richard Boyd, 75.

The jury also found true the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder in the commission of an arson.

Evidence presented during Robbins’ trial showed that he started the fire at the home in the 1300 block of El Sereno Avenue by dousing it with gasoline and setting it ablaze at about 2 a.m. while 17 others were asleep inside.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided against seeking the death penalty for Robbins, who was arrested by Pasadena police the day after the blaze.
