A second defendant was charged Tuesday with a financially motivated killing in Westminster nearly five years ago.
Olga Vasquez-Collazos is charged with murder with a special circumstance allegation of murder for financial gain. The filing came a day after co-defendant Roberto Rafael Saavedra Gallardo made his initial court appearance on the same charge, which was filed in October 2016.
Vasquez-Collazos and Gallardo, both 42, are accused of killing 58-year-old Adrian Zapata, whose body was found in his apartment in the 15100 block of Brookhurst Street about 10:25 a.m. on May 22, 2014.
Westminster police did not respond to messages for details on the case, nor did the prosecutor who filed the murder charge on Vasquez-Collazos.
The defendant, whose occupation was listed as a waitress in Orange County Jail records, made her first appearance in court Tuesday, but her arraignment was rescheduled for April 5 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.
Gallardo is also due back in court for arraignment that day.
Gallardo was extradited from Peru and was brought to Orange County last Friday, said Orange County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Rebecca Moss. She said Vasquez-Collazos was arrested Friday by Westminster police at Los Angeles International Airport, but did not have further details of the defendants’ alleged crimes.
