An Inglewood man was charged Thursday with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son last summer.
Josafat Bonifacio, 27, was scheduled to be arraigned later Thursday at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles on one count each of murder and assault on a child causing death involving the July 2018 death of the Westchester boy, identified as Damien V. by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Bonifacio was staying with his girlfriend and her family at a Westchester residence, where he had been watching his 4-year-old son and his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son on July 3, 2018, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
A 911 call was made that evening and the 2-year-old boy was taken to a hospital where he died, according to Deputy District Attorney Colby Cano.
The boy had suffered multiple injuries, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Bonifacio was arrested Tuesday by Los Angeles police and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
If convicted as charged, he could face up to 25 years to life in state prison, according to prosecutors.
