A man accused of stabbing a Corona manufacturing plant employee during a robbery outside the business was charged Friday with attempted murder and other offenses.
Oscar Moreno, 24, was arrested Wednesday evening after the alleged attack in the 300 block of El Sobrante Road, near Quarry Street.
Along with attempted murder, Moreno is charged with robbery, as well as sentence-enhancing weapon and great bodily injury allegations.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and was slated to make his initial appearance Friday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
According to Corona police Sgt. Chad Fountain, about 5 p.m. Wednesday, the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was walking to his vehicle during a coffee break at the plant when Moreno allegedly confronted him with a knife.
The defendant allegedly stabbed the man in the upper body and took several of his personal items, then fled the area, according to investigators.
Witnesses called 911, and the victim was taken to Corona Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical but stable condition, Fountain said.
He said detectives quickly developed leads pointing to Moreno as the alleged assailant, and he was located less than two hours later at his residence near the intersection of Ontario Avenue and Via Pacifica, where he was taken into custody without a struggle.
Fountain said evidence connected to the attack was found in the defendant’s possession.
Moreno has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
