A woman who allegedly gunned down her husband at their Hemet home, then attempted to make a run for the border, was charged Friday with murder.
Beatriz Navarrete, 42, was taken into custody in Imperial County within a few hours of the shooting death of 41-year-old Hector Navarrete.
Officers were called to the victim’s home in the 900 block of Silver Dust Trail, near Fruitvale Avenue, about 6:20 a.m. Monday to investigate reports of a shooting, according to Hemet police Lt. Eddie Pust.
The victim was located in the house and pronounced dead at the scene a short time later by paramedics, he said.
Detectives immediately suspected Beatriz Navarrete was the perpetrator, and alerts were issued to surrounding police agencies regarding the circumstances, as well as the woman’s description and vehicle, according to Pust. Sheriff’s officials in Imperial County found and detained Navarrete near Highway 111 and Harris Road, as she was allegedly preparing to drive across the border into Mexico, he said.
Navarrete was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Tuesday and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail pending arraignment, which was rescheduled for July 24 at the Banning Justice Center.
