Attempted murder, robbery and assault charges were filed Friday against a man accused of stabbing another man multiple times, and robbing the same man at gunpoint during two separate incidents in Banning.
Steven Martinez, 20, is accused of stabbing the unidentified 30-year-old victim multiple times last Friday, about two weeks after pistol whipping and robbing the same man elsewhere in the city.
Banning police say that after the victim was stabbed in the 1100 block of West Cottonwood Road, he was able to make his way the 1300 block of West Ramsey Street, where officers found him at 2:15 p.m. Friday “bleeding from several stab wounds.” The man was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and has since been released, police said.
Banning police say that two weeks prior to the stabbing, Martinez allegedly robbed the victim at gunpoint and pistol whipped him in the head. Then on June 8, the men became “engaged in a physical altercation,” which led to Martinez allegedly retrieving a “large knife” and stabbing the man several times.
Martinez was arrested at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, after a citizen reported a person matching Martinez’s description in the 1800 block of West Ramsey Street. During his arrest, police say they also recovered stolen property from the stabbing victim.
Martinez, being held on $1 million bail, is due in a Banning courtroom Friday afternoon.
