A 51-year-old felony was convicted Tuesday of two separate shootings less than a week apart in May 2015 in South Los Angeles, including one that wounded his nephew and his nephew’s wife and another in which a man was killed.
Floyd Odell of Los Angeles was found guilty of one count each of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, along with two counts of assault with a firearm, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Jurors also found true firearm allegations, as well as an allegation that he caused great bodily injury.
Odell fatally shot Charles Wilson at the victim’s home in the 700 block of West 79th Street on May 18, 2015, according to Deputy District Attorney Stefana Antonescu. The victim — who died at the scene — was shot multiple times when he went to answer his front door.
Six days earlier, Odell shot his nephew in the pelvis area and the nephew’s wife in the hand as the two walked to their car in the 6900 block of Menlo Avenue. Both were taken to a local hospital recovered from their injuries.
The motive for the shootings was not immediately clear.
Odell was arrested on May 20, 2015, and has remained behind bars since then. He is due back in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom for sentencing May 21, when he is facing up to 50 years to life in state prison.
