Jurors deadlocked Tuesday in the murder trial of a woman accused of deliberately running over her boyfriend outside a La Puente motel after an argument.
A mistrial was declared, and a Feb. 28 status conference was set to determine how to proceed in the case against Sharon Kay Hood, 54, of La Puente, who was charged in the May 2016 death of Randolph Morales.
The two — who had been dating for six years — had argued inside a motel room in the 500 block of North Azusa Avenue in La Puente before Hood abruptly went outside, according to prosecutors.
When Morales followed her outside, she allegedly ran over the 51-year- old man with her car. He died at the scene, and Hood was arrested the same day.
The murder charge includes the allegation of use of a deadly and dangerous weapon — an automobile — during the commission of the crime.
If retried and convicted as charged, Hood could face up to 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
