A 27-year-old man who allegedly shot a friend with a rifle in Norwalk early Sunday was arrested Monday and booked on suspicion of murder.
David Vergara was taken into custody about 9 a.m. and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail pending an initial court appearance Tuesday in Bellflower, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
David Bernal, 25, of Norwalk, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 4:25 a.m. Sunday in the 15400 block of Lefloss Avenue.
“Although the victim and the suspect were friends, the motive for the shooting remains unknown,” according to a sheriff’s statement.
Bernal and the suspect were believed to have been intoxicated when Vergara allegedly shot the victim, sheriff’s officials said.
