A 76-year-old woman was killed in a Santa Ana parking lot early Monday morning and police arrested a 22-year-old man who was seen fleeing the scene of the murder.
The attack took place about 4:10 a.m. in a parking lot at 1605 W. First St., according to Santa Ana police.
Police were called by someone who heard the woman screaming for help. Arriving officers found the woman on the ground and unconscious, police said. Paramedics were called to the scene but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified by police as Betty Jane Willis.
Responding officers arrested a man who was fleeing the scene. He was later identified as Rosendo Xo Pec. Pec was booked on suspicion of murder, police said.
