A 29-year-old woman accused of killing her 4-month- old son in Westminster was charged Friday with murder and child assault causing death.
Thi Nhat Ha Nguyen faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. She was arrested at a home in the 15000 block of Coronado Street, where she and her boyfriend rented a room, police said.
Police were called just before 11 p.m. Tuesday by Nguyen’s boyfriend, who said the suspect was acting “strangely” and their son was unresponsive and not breathing, police Cmdr. Cameron Knauerhaze said.
Knauerhaze said the infant had unspecified traumatic injuries, but the cause of the baby’s death was not released.
The couple have no other children, police said.
The baby, who was born in late August, was named Hau Duc Nguyen, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Nguyen’s boyfriend — Hung Nguyen — told ABC7 he came home to find his girlfriend acting strangely.
“My son, he didn’t move. And I called 911,” he said.
Fighting back tears, he said his girlfriend loved their son.
“I don’t think she did that,” he said. “But who else?”
Neighbors and police said multiple families live in the home.
