A 34-year-old Tustin man accused of strangling his wife was charged Monday with murder.
Erik Merida-Diaz called 911 last Thursday to report he had “hurt” a woman in their apartment, according to Tustin police Lt. Bob Wright.
When officers arrived, they encountered him in front of the apartment in the 15700 block of Tustin Village Way. He had “non-life-threatening cuts on his arms and was detained at the scene,” Wright said.
Merida-Diaz is accused of choking his 35-year-old wife, Elvira Ventura, to death, Wright said.
The couple lived in the apartment with two young sons and rented a room to two other adults.
