An 18-year-old man was charged Monday with murdering his girlfriend, who was found stabbed to death in a vehicle behind a La Habra fast-food restaurant not far from her home.
Jose Antonio Bojorquez-Romero of La Habra could face up to 26 years to life in prison if convicted of the murder of 19-year-old Salina Marie Araiza.
Bail was set at $1 million for Bojorquez-Romero, whose arraignment was rescheduled for May 12. The defendant listed his occupation as cook, according to jail records.
Officers went to the parking lot of the Green Burrito restaurant at 911 W. Whittier Blvd. shortly after 6 a.m. last Friday in response to a 911 call regarding a person in the parking lot who was armed with a knife, the La Habra Police Department reported.
When officers arrived, they encountered Bojorquez-Romero holding a knife and determined that he had made the 911 call, police said. His clothes were “covered in blood, and he appeared to have a wound to his neck,” according to a police statement.
Bojorquez was ordered multiple times to drop the knife, but did not, prompting officers to subdue him with a Taser and sponge-round projectiles, police said.
Before he was taken away in an ambulance, Bojorquez told police to check a Toyota in the parking lot, where they found his girlfriend of several years dead of multiple stab wounds, police said.
The suspect has no criminal history, and there were no restraining orders in place at the time of the stabbing, according to police.
