A 47-year-old Blythe man is behind bars on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping and other charges after his alleged attempt to elude capture was thwarted with the aid of a sheriff’s dog, authorities said Sunday.
The alleged crime took place April 1. Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River station were flagged down near the 7500 block of Highway 95 at around 5:20 p.m. regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim reported being strangled and was prevented from leaving the residence to seek help, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as Arturo Salcido Aguilar, but he allegedly fled before deputies arrived.
Aguilar was arrested Friday after a contingent of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department personnel, including a Fugitive Warrant Enforcement Team, located him in a vehicle near the 400 block of Chanslor Way in Blythe, the department said.
Deputies attempted a vehicle stop, but Arturo allegedly ran from the vehicle and was apprehended with the assistance of the sheriff’s K9 Unit.
He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center, where he was being held on a $1 million bail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, victim intimidation and burglary. His first court date was scheduled for Wednesday at the Indio Larson Justice Center.
