A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 60-year-old woman in Menifee, the Menifee Police Department announced Saturday.
Officers responded to the 27000 block of Adams Avenue around 6 p.m. Friday to a report of a woman who had possibly fallen in her home and was not breathing.
The woman who was identified as 60-year-old Dixie Ortiz was found lying unresponsive on the floor with blood on her face and no obvious injuries. Cal Fire responded to the scene and pronounced Ortiz dead.
Due to suspicious circumstances surrounding the call, detectives from the Menifee PD took immediate control of the investigation and found a single wound on Ortiz consistent with a stab wound.
Detectives identified Ortiz’s family member 31-year-old Vicente Ortiz as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of murder.
The investigation was ongoing as detectives tried to determine a motive behind the fatal confrontation.
