A man suspected of fatally shooting two victims in Long Beach Monday allegedly fled the scene to a nearby building and barricaded himself, leading to an ongoing standoff with law enforcement.
Officers were sent to the 300 block of East 63rd Street about 11:15 a.m. after reports of shots fired, according to the Long Beach Police Department. They found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body and a man with unspecified injuries.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived and took the woman to a hospital, where she later died. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
A perimeter was established to locate the suspect, and SWAT personnel responded to assist in coaxing the man to surrender.
