A 50-year-old Lake Elsinore man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in a business parking lot in the 31000 block of Riverside Drive at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
They found a man suffering from several stab wounds and provided medical attention before medical personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Deputies gathered information about the suspect, including the direction in which he allegedly fled after the stabbing.
The suspect, identified as Steven Smith, was located fleeing into an apartment complex in the 16000 block of Joy Street and was detained without further incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Smith was arrested and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of murder.
The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No additional suspects were believed to be outstanding.
