The City Council voted Tuesday to offer a $50,000 reward in hopes of solving the murder of a 59-year-old man whose naked and battered body was found in an alley in South Los Angeles last fall.
The sheet-covered body of Bruce Johnson — with a block of ice placed on his head — was found near Normandie and Slauson avenues just before 7 a.m. last Sept. 14.
An autopsy showed that Johnson had “broken ribs, a fractured jaw and (showed) signs of strangulation, according to the reward motion, which was introduced by Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson and approved on a 10-0 vote.
Detectives believe that Johnson was likely killed in another location and then dumped in the alley.
Police have been unable to locate anyone who knew Johnson, nor have they established a motive for the killing.
The reward is being offered to anyone who provides information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
