A 32-year-old transient was charged Tuesday with murder in the beating death of another homeless man in Anaheim.
Heriberto Hernandez Munoz, who frequents the Anaheim area but has no permanent residence, is accused of killing 39-year-old Javier Delgado Martinez last Thursday afternoon.
Police responding to a report of a fight in a flood control channel east of Valley Street and south of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway found the victim’s body in the bottom of the wash, Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. He had suffered “blunt force trauma injuries,” the sergeant said.
Munoz and Martinez were “acquaintances,” according to Wyatt.
Munoz made his initial court appearance, but his arraignment was rescheduled for March 3, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Eric Scarbrough. The defendant remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
The victim was “beat badly about the head and face,” but it was not clear what, if any, weapon was used, Scarbrough said. It’s also unclear what prompted the conflict between the two, the prosecutor said.
