The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors re-established a $20,000 reward in hopes of finding the killer of a man whose body was discovered by two riders on horseback on the Altadena Crest Trail in 2013.
Supervisor Kathryn Barger recommended re-offering the reward, which had expired, in an effort to solve the murder of 26-year-old Marcus Nieto.
Nieto was last seen alive at his home on Feb. 15, 2013. Investigators said he went to visit a friend in Pomona, but might have returned to the Covina/Azusa area at some point. His body was found the next day.
The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide, but did not release the cause of death for years due to a security hold on the case. Coroner’s records now indicate that Nieto died of “multiple blunt force trauma to head.”
