An 18-year-old man accused in a robbery-shooting in Desert Hot Springs that left one man dead and another wounded pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and other charges.
Angel Arangure of Desert Hot Springs was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the July 14 shooting in the area of Santa Cruz Road and West Drive.
Arangure is charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and three counts of robbery. He is the second suspect to be arrested in the case.
Arangure was arraigned via video conference before Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez at the Banning Justice Center. The judge scheduled a felony settlement conference for Aug. 4 and kept bail at $1 million for the defendant, who is being held at the Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Officers patrolling in the vicinity where the crime occurred heard gunshots about 11:50 that night and located two gunshot victims and a third man inside a car attempting to flee the area.
The shooting victims, whose names were not released, were taken to an area hospital, where one of them later died. The other was treated and released, police said.
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy, whose name was also not released because he is a minor, within 12 hours of the shooting. He has been charged with murder in juvenile court.
Arangure has no documented felony convictions in Riverside County.
