Homicide detectives announced Tuesday that two unsolved Pasadena murders, one in 2013 and one in 2015, are believed to be the result of an internal gang feud.
The first slaying occurred on Feb. 28, 2013, about 8:45 p.m. in the 600 block of North Mar Vista Avenue near Orange Grove Boulevard. A witness said the victim, Tyrone English, 35, of Monrovia, was standing alone when a gunman approached.
English started to run, but was wounded and was then shot two or three more times while lying in the street, investigators said. He died while a woman held him in her arms.
The second murder occurred on Aug. 21, 2015, about 5:15 p.m. in the rear parking lot of a barbershop in the 1700 block of East Washington Boulevard, a couple of blocks from Allen Avenue, said Pasadena police Lt. Jessee Carrillo.
Monte Russell, 39, of Los Angeles, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The killer or killers fled the scene in a gray 2015 Dodge Charger.
His mother, Yvonne Trice, said at the time that the father of three had left the gang life behind and was working as a tile installer for an Altadena company.
Investigators now believe both killings are linked to an internal feud within a Pasadena-based street gang, Carrillo said.
No arrests have been made in either case, and investigators encouraged anyone with information to contact Pasadena police at 626-744-4241, or call 800-222-TIPS to provide an anonymous tip.
